Baldwin Fine Arts Center
Construction Gallery
Follow the construction process from demolition to opening day in this pictorial history of the construction of the Baldwin Fine Arts Center.

Demolition of the Old Bus Ramp and Front Entrance
Demolition of the existing bus ramp and front entrance -
making way for the Baldwin Fine Arts Center.

Excavation of the Site
Site excavation takes nearly two months and moves nearly 200 tons of earth.

First Concrete and Footings
First footings and concrete poured for the new administrative suite and entrance.

First Framing
The first framing of the front entrance and theatre lobby.

Concrete for Auditorium Seating
First concrete is poured for the main theatre floor and the orchestra pit is framed below the stage level. From the base of the orchestra pit to the top of the theatre is almost five stories high!

Auditorium Framing
Framing takes shape as the beams for the theatre rise from the concrete footing.

Concrete for the Band Room, Art Rooms, and Chorus Room
New concrete flooring poured for the band suite, chorus suite and art rooms - showing the eventual size of the completed center.

Final Framing and Auditorium Catwalks
The final framing and structural supports emerge - skylights, hallways, and rehearsal rooms take shape and the catwalk around the stage fly space is installed 40 feet in the air.

Auditorium Ceiling and Lighting Coves
The ceiling of the main auditorium takes shape.  Specially designed ceiling angles and materials help create an acoustically pure environment.  Recessed lighting coves hide lighting units and theatrical specials from the audiences' view.

Exterior Walkways and Interior Finishing
Designed to invoke images of old Southern train depots of the early parts of the 20th century, the covered walkways around the exterior of the building create a warm and inviting look for the state-of-the-art spaces inside.

Stage Rigging and Orchestra Pit Installation
The first part of the counterweight system for the stage and orchestra pit lift system are installed in the main auditorium.

Auditorium Carpeting and Seating
Carpeting and seating areas are given final touches in the main auditorium
